Our Film Ideas- Planning

After researching about short films we decided that the target audience for the film will be
18-25 year olds .

Based on this we did a brainstorm for general Ideas for Short Films that would perhaps appeal to our target audience. (On A3)

Firstly we thought of ‘Films that influenced us’, these were the films:
Short Films:
Sign Language (Oscar Sharp)
Veronique (Patrik Beurgh)
Gone Goodbye
Memories

Bollywood/Indian Films:
Dus Kahaniyaan (10 Stories)- Sanjay Gupta 2007
Akela (Alone)- Drama 2006

Dramas and Hollywood/British Mainstream Films:
The Others 2001
Death note 2006

Other Relevant Films:
Year 7 Short Film Trailers (Brentford School for Girls) 2011
Broken Disappearance (Our Previous Film we created) 2011

As we were influenced by films of other cultures, we also thought about a long Bollywood film being condensed into five minutes. This could be a parody or a prestige of the film. However, this would be practically impossible for us this is because Bollywood films tend to be hours long (2-3hours) therefore it would be hard to convert this into a 5 minute film trying to get the point across.
We thought to do a mockumentary, we were thinking to do this as a news report making the genre a thriller (which was from the ideas of the year 7 thriller film trailers), on the other hand we could make a mockumentary/documentary by thinking of a theme and making it light hearted such as the film sign language. For this we thought about using different characters with different ages with teachers, sixth form students and younger students.
Furthermore, as we thought of a light hearted short film, we thought we could use uplifting scores, happy bright colours, inviting titles. We thought about how we could keep the Brief of ‘Britishness’ in mind therefore as the British people are seen as reserved, we thought about how a character could do ‘good things for others’ which is something we would not see a British person do and how the public do not tend to interact with others that are strangers as we like to ‘keep to ourselves’.
